Díky modulární architektuře Alixu lze tento kousek hardware použít na více než 50 různých aplikacích v oblasti zabudovaných zařízení, jak širokopásmový management, tak bezpečnostní aplikace (firewall) a routování. Desky mohou být též osazeny v multimediálních aplikacích stejně dobře jako na bezdrátových bodech nebo VPN bránách. Všechny modely Alix jsou kompatibilní s operačním systémem Mikrotik.
